Ansarullah condemns 'cowardly' US-Saudi aggression on Iraq, backs response

According to a statement issued by Ansarullah’s Political Bureau and carried by Yemen’s Al Masirah television channel on Wednesday, the movement denounced the assaults as “illegal, cowardly and contrary to all international laws and treaties.”

The statement called the aggression a blatant infringement on Iraq’s sovereignty and an attack against the Iraqi people “in all their components and affiliations.”

Ansarullah said the attacks reflect the continued hegemonic policies of the United States and Saudi Arabia toward countries in the region, adding that they serve the interests of the “Zionist project.”

It also reaffirmed Iraq’s legitimate right, including that of its government, armed forces, people, and resistance groups, to respond to the attacks, adding that the Yemeni people stand in solidarity with Iraq in the face of external aggression.

The statement was issued hours after multiple locations across Iraq were targeted in coordinated strikes.

The terrorist US Central Command (CENTCOM) and the Saudi Ministry of Defense said the assaults were carried out against bases and weapons storage facilities belonging to Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), also known as Hashd al-Sha’abi, which serves as a coalition of anti-terror resistance groups.

According to their statements, the air raids were conducted in response to an alleged drone attack targeting oil facilities in eastern Saudi Arabia.

Hashd al-Sha'abi called the aggression a "highly dangerous escalation" and a violation of Iraq's sovereignty.

In a statement, the force said several of its official bases across Iraq in "terrorist attacks" carried out by US and Saudi forces earlier on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the strikes martyred and wounded several people and caused material damage to buildings and other property belonging to the organization.

The PMU said it views the attacks as "a highly dangerous escalation, a blatant violation of Iraq's territorial integrity, and an attack on the country's official security institutions."

It added that the relevant authorities are conducting field assessments and that efforts to determine the full extent of the damage and casualties are ongoing.

The group said it will release further details and official updates once additional information becomes available.

The Iraqi resistance had warned Saudi Arabia earlier against waging such strikes against Iraqi territory following Riyadh’s claims that its oil facilities were targeted from Iraq.

In a statement released on Monday, the resistance rejected the Saudi allegations, describing them as “baseless.”

It also urged Saudi authorities to stop blaming Iraq and instead end Riyadh’s blockade on Yemen.
