Hamas official warns settlement escalation in Al-Quds aims to enforce displacement

A senior Hamas official warned on Tuesday that the escalating settlement expansion and ongoing attacks against Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem are part of a deliberate policy of forced displacement, calling for intensified resistance to confront what he described as an organized campaign of ethnic cleansing.

Majed Abu Qutaish said the sharp increase in settlement activity in occupied Al-Quds and its surrounding areas, particularly against Bedouin communities east of the city, constitutes a “full-fledged crime” carried out by Israeli authorities and settler militias under full official and security protection.

Abu Qutaish pointed specifically to recent attacks targeting the al-Hathroura Bedouin community, warning that such assaults are aimed at forcibly emptying Jerusalem and its environs of their Palestinian population in order to impose new demographic and geographic realities.

He said Israeli occupation forces, along with settlers, carry out near-daily attacks that include violent home raids, deliberate intimidation of women and children, arson, property confiscation, and the detention and interrogation of young Palestinians. These actions, he said, are intended to break the will of Jerusalem’s residents and push them toward forced expulsion.

Abu Qutaish warned that the escalation forms part of a broader settlement scheme that threatens to ignite the situation in the holy city and its surroundings, amid mounting pressure on Palestinian communities.

He called on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Al-Quds and 1948 occupied Palestine to remain vigilant, intensify popular mobilization, support the resilience of targeted communities, and strengthen all forms of confrontation in defense of land, presence, and holy sites.
