56 Palestinian journalists martyred in 2025
The Government Media Office in Gaza documented the martyring of 56 journalists in 2025 while performing their professional duties.
This brings the total number of journalist victims to 275 since the start of the genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people.
The office noted that the fate of three journalists remains unknown, while over 420 journalists were injured to varying degrees while covering events, highlighting the extreme risks faced by Palestinian media workers.
Additionally, 50 journalists were subjected to arrest and torture, in blatant violation of international laws and conventions that protect journalists during armed conflicts. This reflects a systematic targeting of the free Palestinian narrative.
The office emphasized that these figures represent a deliberate targeting of Palestinian journalists. It accused Israeli forces of seeking to silence the truth through killing, intimidation, and detention—serious violations of humanitarian norms and international law.
According to the statement, Palestinian journalists have remained steadfast in their battle for awareness and dignity. They’ve been the truth-tellers who exposed Israeli crimes to the world, despite Israel’s ongoing attempts to suppress facts and distort reality.
These statistics were released ahead of Palestinian Journalist Appreciation Day, observed annually on December 31, as a tribute to the truth’s defenders who carried their professional and national duties with courage and integrity, even in the harshest of conditions, standing on the front lines to defend truth and justice for the Palestinian cause.
The Government Media Office stressed that this year’s commemoration comes under extraordinary and unprecedented circumstances, amid a two-year genocide campaign by Zionist regime’s forces against the Palestinian people, accompanied by a systematic targeting of journalists and media institutions in a desperate attempt to silence free voices and erase truth from the global narrative.
