UNICEF warns worsening malnutrition and winter conditions threaten Gaza’s children

The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) warned on Saturday that the continued spread of malnutrition, combined with the arrival of winter, poses a severe and life-threatening danger to children in the Gaza Strip.

UNICEF said in a statement that winter conditions are driving a surge in disease and sharply increasing the risk of death among Gaza’s most vulnerable children.

The agency noted that nutritional screenings showed nearly 9,300 children under the age of five suffering from acute malnutrition during the month of October alone.

The organization urged all parties to open all crossings into Gaza and allow the unhindered passage of humanitarian aid through every possible supply route.

Since October,7, 2023, Zionist regime, with US and European backing, has carried out a genocide in the Gaza Strip, involving mass killings, starvation, destruction, displacement and widespread detentions, in defiance of international appeals and multiple orders from the International Court of Justice to halt its actions.

The genocide has left more than 239,000 Palestinians martyred or wounded, most of them women and children, and more than 11,000 missing. Hundreds of thousands have been displaced, famine has claimed the lives of many, particularly children, and much of Gaza’s urban landscape has been reduced to ruins.
