UAE summons Israeli ambassador over deadly airstrike on Doha

The United Arab Emirates has summoned Zionist Regime’s Ambassador Yossi Shelley to protest an airstrike on Doha that targeted senior Hamas leaders, intensifying diplomatic tensions between Abu Dhabi and Tel Aviv.

The Zionist regime’s public broadcaster KAN reported the news on Friday, signaling growing tensions between Israel and the Arab nation despite their close economic and defense ties.

Even before Tuesday's strike on Hamas leaders in Doha, relations between Abu Dhabi and the incumbent far-right Israeli cabinet led by prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu had been uneasy over the regime’s plan to further annex Palestinian-owned lands of the occupied West Bank, which the UAE said would constitute a 'red line'.

On Thursday, the UAE condemned “hostile” statements made by Netanyahu against Qatar.

The Emirati Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, said Qatar’s security and stability are an “integral part” of that of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations, stressing that any assault on a PGCC member state constitutes an attack” on the collective Persian Gulf security framework.

The ministry voiced the UAE’s “categorical rejection” of the Israeli prime minister’s remarks, which it said included future threats against Qatar, warning that such rhetoric undermines regional stability and pushes the region toward “extremely dangerous trajectories.”

Netanyahu's statements were made amid increasing global condemnation regarding Israel's attack on Hamas officials in Doha.

“You either expel them (Hamas) or you bring them to justice. Because if you don’t, we will,” Netanyahu addressed Qatar on Wednesday.

Hamas said five of its members had been killed in the attack, including the son of its Gaza chief and top negotiator, Khalil al-Hayya.

Hamas said the group’s top leadership had survived the attack.

Qatar denounced the assault as a “cowardly act” and a clear infringement of international law, cautioning that it would not accept Israel's “reckless behavior.”

The Persian Gulf kingdom, in conjunction with Egypt and the United States, has been actively involved in mediating an end to Zionist regime’s genocidal campaign in Gaza, which has resulted in the deaths of over 64,700 Palestinians since October 2023.
