Albanese calls for global arms embargo and economic boycott of Zionist regime

Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, called on Thursday for states around the world to impose an arms embargo and sever trade and financial ties with Zionist regime.

In her latest report presented before the UN Human Rights Council, Albanese addressed the “economy of genocide,” accusing Israel of being responsible for “one of the most brutal genocides in modern history.”

“The situation in the occupied Palestinian territories has surpassed the level of catastrophe,” she stated in a speech that received a standing ovation. Regarding the US-backed “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation,” Albanese described it as “a death trap designed to kill or displace people.”

She further accused Israeli forces and the American security firm of systematically targeting starving civilians seeking aid. Despite international condemnation and calls to stop using food and aid as weapons of war, those appeals have largely remained rhetorical and failed to stop the killing of the hungry.

Meanwhile, Amnesty International said that Israel’s imposition of the aid program managed by the “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation” has resulted in hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries. It emphasized that Israeli authorities have turned the act of seeking aid into a death trap for starving people, deliberately fueling chaos and exacerbating suffering in Gaza.

Albanese’s report accuses over 60 international companies, including major firms in the arms and tech industries, of complicity in supporting Israel’s settlement enterprise and contributing to the devastating war on the Gaza Strip.

The 27-page report said, “The Israeli genocide continues because it is profitable for many.” It highlights the financial entanglement of listed companies with the Israeli system of apartheid and militarization.

Albanese called for holding executives of these companies accountable under international law and ending all forms of commercial cooperation with Israel. She emphasized that some of these companies supply Israel with weapons and equipment used to destroy Palestinian infrastructure or are involved in surveillance systems that contribute to repression.

Backed by unwavering US support, Zionist regime’s forces have been waging a genocidal war on Gaza since October 2023. According to the Ministry of Health, the ongoing aggression has resulted in over 57,130 martyrs, 135,173 injured, and more than 11,000 missing, along with famine that has claimed dozens of lives. Over two million Palestinians live in conditions of forced displacement amid widespread destruction.
