Gaza hospitals warn of imminent shutdown

The Director of Field Hospitals in the Gaza Strip, Marwan Al-Hams, warned that major hospitals may soon cease operations due to a severe shortage of medicine and essential medical supplies.
In a press statement on Monday, Al-Hams said that most cases arriving at hospitals from aid distribution centers are critical, noting that intensive care units are already full.
“We are rationing the use of medical supplies,” he added. “What is meant for one patient is being split between two or three.”
Al-Hams also stressed that if the current situation continues, meningitis is likely to spread in the area.
Earlier, the Director of Medical Relief in Gaza, Mohammad Abu Afesh, confirmed the deteriorating state of the health sector and expressed fears of a meningitis outbreak among children.
Since March 2, the Israeli occupation has closed Gaza’s border crossings, blocking the entry of food, medical, and humanitarian aid, as well as commercial goods, causing a dramatic deterioration in the humanitarian situation.
The Zionist regime’s forces resumed their aggression on the Gaza Strip on the morning of March 18, 2025, launching airstrikes across the territory. This marked a collapse of the ceasefire agreement with Hamas and other resistance factions, which had lasted nearly 60 days under US, Egyptian, and Qatari mediation.
