UNICEF: 112 Gazan children diagnosed with acute malnutrition every day

UNICEF spokesman Kazem Abu Khalaf warned on Saturday of a severe deterioration in the humanitarian situation in Gaza, revealing that 112 children are diagnosed with malnutrition every day.

Abu Khalaf said, “The number of children entering severe malnutrition has increased by 180 percent when comparing February, during the ceasefire, to June. The occupation continues to escalate this crisis at an alarming rate.”

He emphasized that while some children entering malnutrition survive, tens of thousands suffer from varying degrees of nutritional deficiency, posing a direct threat to their lives and futures.

The crisis extends beyond children to pregnant women, many of whom are experiencing severe malnutrition, resulting in infants being born in critical health conditions from the first moments of life.

Gaza is facing one of the worst humanitarian crises in its history, where extreme famine coincides with an ongoing genocide carried out by Israel.

Since March 2, Israel has closed all crossings into Gaza, blocking the entry of humanitarian aid despite aid trucks being stranded at its borders. Limited supplies are allowed, insufficient to meet the minimum needs of the hungry Palestinian population.

Recently, the UN World Food Program warned that one-third of Gaza’s population, out of approximately 2.4 million people, had gone several days without food.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with US support, has carried out a genocide in Gaza that includes killing, starvation, destruction, and displacement, ignoring international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt these actions.

The Zionist regime’s genocide has resulted in 61,827 Palestinians martyred and 155,275 injured, most of them women and children, with more than 9,000 missing and hundreds of thousands displaced. Famine has claimed the lives of 251 people, including 108 children.
